We’re proud to be a Detroit-based Ministry. Come by and visit; we’re here for you!
In January of 1995, Apostle and his wife, Pastor Wytrice Harris, discussed the vision that was burning in his soul. It was to be a ministry that was real; a ministry that discussed practical issues as well as spiritual issues; a ministry that encompassed body, soul and spirit; a ministry built, operated and maintained on one thing – the truth of God’s word. It was revealed that this ministry would bring complete healing to the total man and hence the name Total Life Christian Ministries was chosen.
On March 26, 1995 Total Life Christian Ministries, affectionately known as TLC, began with eight people in the home of Bishop and Pastor Harris. The ministry grew, both in size and spirituality, and soon became too large to be encompassed in a home. In March of 1996, the church moved to a small store front building on Hayes and continued to grow. In January of 1997, the Spirit unctioned the ministry to share a building with Apostolic Way Church on Van Dyke Avenue. The fellowship experience with Apostolic Way gave TLC the opportunity to congeal in family strength, learning and developing the TLC love that is still practiced and shared today. In January 1998, after almost a year of sharing Apostolic Way’s building, the ministry moved into its headquarter location at 13158 Gratiot Avenue. This move fulfilled the 1996 prophecy that TLC would return to its beginning in Bishop’s father’s building.
During the years at the Gratiot location several different ministries including Youth, Married, Single, Women and Men ministries were developed. Teaching became an area of concentration as Life Academy was started. Ministers began to join and be birthed in TLC and the understanding of five-fold ministry and its importance in the full development of the church was revealed. Ministry, work and service to the community began to expand and a Thursday evening feeding program for the homeless and needy was started. Also, clothes, food and gifts-in-kind were given to those who sought help from TLC. TLC became a household name in the Gratiot-Rochelle community and membership continued to increase.
In January 2012, TLC partnered with Matrix Human Services and moved its services to the sanctuary inside the Matrix Community Center. This partnership not only allows for more space for TLC to grow but increases and expands the outreach opportunities and partnerships in the Osborn neighborhood. TLC has come a long way since its humble beginnings of eight people and is continuously listening for the voice of God in great expectation of the next move… physically and spiritually.
